Haitian American Medical Association Launch Event
The launch event will be an interactive eight-member panel of Haitian American professionals that will motivate, and empower Haitian American youth and young adults. This event is geared towards pouring back into our communities; helping the future generation to understand that success and struggle are counter parts when aiming for success. Furthermore, this event will be the first of many to instill hope, build resilience, and encourage growth for our ever-growing Haitian American community.

We Hold These Truths Book Tour Stop
He’s back! After taking a few weeks away from traveling—word is he’s been working on the next novel—author David Mitchell will appear at Dudley Dough (Roxbury, 2302 Washington St.; 3:00pm – 6:00pm) to discuss his debut novel We Hold These Truths, examine the political and social ramifications of the first black US president, and share his views on the actionable Obama Era lessons liberals can apply going forward under president Trump and beyond.

NEXTonSCENE Magazine Spring Fashion Show
Jackie from JZ Social Enterprises presents NEXTonScene Magazine’s Spring Fashion Show. This year’s event takes place at Venu Nightclub and starts off with a cocktail hour with complimentary food from Oh Jolie Catering, an opener performance with the fashion show to start immediately after. This year’s featured designers include Lalla Bee, Giblees Menswear, Timeless Bridal Creations & QueensKnow!

StepFest 2017
The Illustrious Iota Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated presents the 43rd Annual New England Stepfest Competition! Come watch members of the Divine Nine compete in the step competition of the year. In addition to performances by Greek lettered organizations, the show will present exhibitions by local Boston community groups and will feature a famous recording artist performance! Doors open at 4:00 pm and show starts at 4:30 pm. We hope to see you all there!

Christal Brown’s The Opulence of Integrity
The Dance Complex will host a week-long residency with Choreographer Christal Brown, bringing her dance company INSPIRIT to the Julie Ince Thompson Theatre for performances of “The Opulence of Integrity,” from March 31 – April 2. Inspired by the life and legend of Muhammad Ali, the performance incorporates elements of boxing, hip-hop, martial arts, and modern dance to an original sound score by Farai Malianga, and include artistic exploration with the Boston dance community. Students from Boston Arts Academy, Brookline High School and Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School will showcase their work prior to each of the performances.

Lizard Lounge Poetry Slam Semi-Finals
Eight great poets will compete to be on the 2017 Lizard Lounge Poetry Slam Team! This is our 20th Anniversary Slam Team. The top four scoring poets get in our finals on April 16.

In the Name of Maya Celebration
Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley and Friends invites you to the 1st Annual, “In the Name of Maya” Celebration. “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”- Maya Angelou. During these sometimes “cloudy” and incredibly uncertain times, let us come together to celebrate the life of someone who has been a rainbow to many of us, a literary genius, visionary, acadmeic, dancer, singer and survivor whose impact transends, race, time, space and generations.

HOPE Inc. Open Mic Night Featuring Shamoore & Howard
HOPE Inc. an acronym for ‘Hop On Proper Education’ presents to you a monthly feature. In honor of April being National Poetry Month, we are so excited to announce we have not one but TWO features! Howard DePass Jr. and Shamoore Simpson started Caretakers of Humanity (COH) in 2014 as a poem honoring a group of inspiring peers and has since developed into a community focused art collective. COH is a spoken word collective connecting with community leaders to build a network of communities where creative culture is highly valued. Whether it’s hosting community events or selling apparel to raise money for social justice issues, COH connects art to people to show the power of community.”

4th Annual We Create Festival – Celebrating Women in the Arts
We Create has become a favorite in the Massachusetts arts community! The first week of April, Boston comes alive as a vibrant city committed to the support of self-identified women artists through this award-winning festival. Renowned and upcoming artists from Massachusetts share with you an unparalleled feast of music, dance, film, performance art, mixed media, and circus arts! In 2016, we were awarded a Festivals Grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and in 2017 we were awarded a LAB Grant from the Boston Foundation.

First Fridays at the ICA
